Prerequisites:

Candidate must be at least 16 years of age at the conclusion of the learning programme.

Description:

If you are interested in supporting the teaching programme in a learn to swim environment under ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming, this certificate will allow you to operate as a support teacher. It will provide you with the general teach/coach' skills common to all disciplines together with specific focus on movement literacy second part of the course will focus on aquatic teaching including the technical knowledge and practical skills which will allow you to actively support a more senior qualified/licensed aquatic teacher at any level, in the delivery of a pre-prepared session. You will be expected to have an understanding of the aquatic environment and a basic understanding of the appropriate correction and common aquatic faults.

Assessment:

Assessment is by the course tutor/assessor and will cover:

  • Practical coaching through the use of a continuous check list plus one formal 15 minute assessment.

  • Theoretical knowledge through continuous assessment, verbal and written questions.

  • Planning, preparation and other associated tasks through the completion of a candidate book.

  • Course leading to a ASA qualification and subject to an internal and external verification process.

Further Study:

This qualification is the first stage in a three level coaching structure. Unit 1 is transferable ASA disciplines so f you wish to take a Level 1 qualification in another discipline you would require to complete Unit 2 within the discipline. The next stage for you will be to progress to ASA Level 2 certificate for Teaching Aquatics and/or Unit 2 of another discipline.
